A picture of Alec Dauncey

Clwyd East - Alec Dauncey

The Clwyd East Welsh Liberal Democrats have chosen Alec Dauncey to stand for election to the House of Commons in the next General Election.

Alec has a strong connection with the constituency. His parents lived in Ruthin for more than thirty-five years, and his first job was as a Forest Worker in Clocaenog forest. Alec is an active professional forester who teaches at Bangor University and has worked in forestry and the environment all his working life.

He is proud to represent the Liberal Democrats in this new constituency, which has a strong and effective team of Liberal Democrat councillors on Flintshire and Denbighshire councils. Alec has been involved in Liberal politics since he was a teenager, and has stood for Westminster and the European Parliament.

Commenting on his selection, Alec Dauncey stated:

“I want to see a Fair Deal for people in Britain – so much has become broken and unfair.

We need to bring power closer to people. That means more local responses from councils and respecting and strengthening our Senedd, holding it to account on health, education agriculture and transport. Westminster politicians have no place interfering in that.

The UK government needs to get to grips with economic fairness and a greener, more innovative economy.

Well-being and security mean we should work together much more closely to rebuild our relations with our European Union allies and neighbours in an increasingly uncertain world. We need to get on with clear steps towards eventually rejoining the European Union.

I’m proud that the Liberal Democrats have stood up for the rule of international law in the face of Israel’s response to the appalling attacks of October 2023.”
