Cunliffe Review - The Ball is now Firmly in the Welsh Government's Court

Responding to Sir Jon Cunliffe’s report into the water industry, including the call to scrap Ofwat, Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds MS said:

“This is a big win for the Welsh Liberal Democrats who have led the campaign against the sewage scandal in Wales for years. Since 2022, we have called for Ofwat to be replaced with a tougher regulator, and now finally, the UK government appears to have listened.

“Now the ball is firmly in the Welsh Government’s court, with Natural Resources Wales having seen over a decade of cuts by Welsh Labour, there are serious questions over whether it is going to be able to take on these new powers and use them effectively.

“The Welsh Liberal Democrats will continue to hold Ministers in Cardiff Bay to account and campaign to clean up the water industry, including banning bonuses for water company executives.”
