Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds today outlined how the party will fix our broken politics, as she unveiled its plan for cleaning up the sleaze and scandal created by both the Conservatives and Welsh Labour.

Jane Dodds has outlined an urgent need to put power into the hands of voters, end the sleaze and scandal and make politics work for ordinary people again.

Her party’s plan includes:

•            A cap on political donations.

•            Ending the WhatsApp deletion scandals.

•            Making every vote count by introducing proportional representation for electing MPs.

•            Reforming the House of Lords.

•            A written constitution for the UK.

•            A right to recall your Senedd Member.

•            Opposing the use of closed lists in the Senedd.

Commenting, Jane Dodds MS said:

“People feel completely let down and disappointed with the current state of politics in Wales. We have had scandal after scandal in both Westminster and Cardiff Bay.

Good governance is the bedrock to getting everyone faster access to a GP and an NHS dentist, lifting up education and taking the sewage out of our rivers. To achieve that, we need to clean up our politics and make it work for ordinary people.

The Welsh Liberal Democrats would make every vote count and boost transparency so we can see an end to events like the Vaughan Gething donation scandal and the Covid WhatsApp deletions.

A first step to cleaning up our politics would be to introduce a cap on political donations, removing the power from donors and big money back to the people.

We also want to put power back in the hands of people by giving them the right to recall their Senedd Member if they are found to have behaved in an inappropriate way and by opposing the use of closed lists to elect Senedd Members.

Both the Conservatives and Welsh Labour have been in power too long, breaking the rules and taking people for granted. The Liberal Democrats stand ready to fix our broken politics. Our local champions will put public service back into the beating heart of that politics.”
