Responding to the Bevan Foundation report calling for a new approach to tackling child poverty in Wales, Welsh Liberal Democrat Leader Jane Dodds MS said:

“After 27 years of Labour running the Welsh Government, the fact that child poverty levels have barely shifted is a stain on our country and on Labour.

“Allowing so many children to grow up in poverty doesn’t just damage their life chances, it also harms our economy and places huge long-term pressure on public services.

“That’s why the Welsh Liberal Democrats are offering the most generous childcare package of any party at the next Senedd election. We would fund 30 hours of free childcare per week for every child aged between 9 months and four years old in Wales.

“Affordable childcare is one of the most effective ways to lift families out of poverty, helping parents back into work while giving children the best possible start in life.”
