Lib Dems welcome return to Erasmus after years of campaigning
Following the government’s announcement that the UK will rejoin the Erasmus scheme, Welsh Liberal Democrat Westminster spokesperson David Chadwick MP said:
“For years, the Liberal Democrats have campaigned to restore the UK’s participation in Erasmus.
"In Wales, it was the Liberal Democrats who stepped up and ensured students were still able to study and take up apprenticeships abroad through the widely praised Taith Programme, introduced by Kirsty Williams in 2021 after Boris Johnson needlessly withdrew the UK from Erasmus.
“From young people to businesses, people across Wales have been badly affected by the Conservatives’ damaging Brexit deal.
“The Labour Government must now go further in breaking down barriers with Europe. They should finally listen to our calls to negotiate a bespoke UK–EU customs union and commit to a youth mobility scheme, giving future generations the opportunities they deserve.”
